GOALS AND PURPOSES of Legacy Foundation
Legacy Foundation seeks to sponsor and support
educational, cultural and social service projects that raise the
quality of life of the poor and underprivileged in Thailand and
surrounding countries without discrimination. The main project of
Legacy Foundation at this time is the Legacy Institute Training
Center in Tambol Mae Sa, Ampher Mae Rim, Chiang Mai.
FUNDING
The majority of funding comes primarily from
donors in Thailand, America, Europe, Australia and Canada.
PURPOSE of Legacy Institute Training Center
Founded to provide education to the poor and
underprivileged hill tribes from the mountains and border areas of
Thailand as well as neighboring countries. The overall goal is to
teach young people to lead ethical and moral lives and learn leadership skills and the principles of
giving and serving among their own people.
SELECTION OF TRAINEES
Underprivileged youth between the ages of 18-25
who come from poor families who cannot afford to pay for further
education for their children. They study for three years. Currently, our
trainees come from the Lisaw, Kachin, Hmong, Lahu, Chin and Karen
tribes. Legacy
Foundation does not discriminate as to religion in the selection
process – and trainees are free to maintain their own personal
religious convictions.
MORAL AND ETHICAL STANDARDS
LEGACY FOUNDATION MAINTAINS THE HIGHEST STANDARDS
OF MORAL AND ETHICAL CONDUCT FOR VOLUNTEER TEACHING STAFF AND
STUDENTS. STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT TO BE MORAL AND LAW - ABIDING CITIZENS
OF THEIR COUNTRIES. NO ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE IS PERMITTED. SEXUAL
RELATIONS BETWEEN TRAINEES IS NOT PERMITTED. NO POLITICAL ACTIVITY
OF ANY KIND IS PERMITTED.
TUITION
Trainees pay no tuition. They receive 100%
scholarships from Legacy Foundation. This covers food, housing,
uniforms, educational supplies and medical attention. After
graduation, trainees are encouraged to return to their home villages
and volunteer to teach among their own people.
COURSE OF STUDIES English, Computers, Music and
Chorale, Vocational Organic Gardening, Ethics and Morality, Bible,
Health and Hygiene, Public Speaking, and Sports. The educational
program lasts 3 years. During the 3rd year each student is also
given training in “How to Teach”. (See list of

VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTORS
Instructors are recruited from USA, Canada,
Australia and other English speaking nations. Instructors volunteer
to teach for at least one year without salary. Each must have
completed one higher degree (Vocational Degree, Associate’s Degree,
Bachelor’s Degree, Masters Degree or higher). One native Thai teacher is employed to
teach Thai language to volunteer instructors and students.

Legacy Foundation currently employs 7 Thai
employees and 1 American. All other western administrators volunteer
their time.
